Dawgs heading to San Jose to face Marquette
KOMO Newsradio's Tom Glasgow sends us this video of the moment the Washington Huskies found out they were playing Marquette in the NCAA Tournament. The team and fans were at the Don James Center when the announcement came.

The Washington Huskies have found out that they will be heading to San Jose to open the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Pac-10 champion Dawgs will be facing the Marquette Golden Eagles out of the Big East Conference on Thursday.  The game time will be determined later tonight.  Marquette is the 6th seed in the East Region, while Washington is the 11th seed.

The winner of the game at HP Pavilion will face the winner of the game between the New Mexico Lobos, the regular season champions of the Mountain West Conference, and the Montana Grizzlies, the Big Sky Conference champions.

Marquette is located in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.  They finished fifth in the regular season and lost in the Big East semifinals to Georgetown.  They are 22-11 on the season, going 11-7 in the Big East.  They are led by Lazar Hayward, a senior from Buffalo who averaged over 18 points and over seven rebounds a game.

About 350 people turned up at the Don James Center to see where the Huskies would be going in the tourney.

Last year, Washington beat Mississippi State 71-58 at Portland's Rose Garden in the first round of the tourney before losing to Purdue 76-74.

Only one other Pac-10 team made the NCAA Tournament. California, whom the Huskies beat in the conference final, is a #8 seed in the South Region and will play the Louisville Cardinals in Jacksonville, Florida, with the winner likely getting the Duke Blue Devils.

For ticket information, call the Husky Ticket Office at 206-543-2200 or go to the Huskies website.
