Four police officers were killed at a Lakewood Forza Coffee Co. in November, 2009, but that didn't put Nick Jensen off their coffee.

Jensen was a working as a Tacoma SWAT team negotiator and was "pretty heavily involved" in the tragedy, he said.

Forza's finesse impressed him.

"They handled the tragedy in Lakewood the right way. They didn’t use it as a promotional scheme," he said. "They understood this is a tragedy and they tried to help as much as they could."

Now Jensen and his wife Jaime are joining fellow Tacoma police officers Dave Johnson and Richard Kim to open their own Forza franchise in the University District.

Jensen knows his business partners have his back because he's worked alongside them on the police force. He's spent many nights in the cruiser with Johnson, a partnership he said is like "a second marriage."

The store opens Saturday at 101 25th Ave. N.E. in the new Corydon apartments.

Jensen said said he hopes to one day use part of his profits from the shop to benefit the families of fallen police officers.

All the men plan to keep their current jobs.
